Pick up and Drop off Locations

Reykjavik, Keflavik Airport, Hornafjordur, Westman Islands, Egilsstadir, Akureyri, Isafjordur

(Drop-off fees apply for cars dropped off in a different location from where picked up, including cars picked up/dropped off
between Keflavik and Reykjavik. Drop off fees are paid in Iceland).

If you are picking up your car in Reykjavik, you can arrange a free driver transfer by shuttle from your hotel to Hertz to pick up your car for about 8$ per driver. (You can arrange this with your hotel front desk the day before to confirm the pick up time.  Please note pick up
service to find out shuttle schedule.)

Driving in Iceland

Roads in town and most major rural roads are asphalt. Narrow secondary roads are usually volcanic gravel. Driving is on the right-hand side. Road signs are international. The speed limit in most towns and villages is 50 km/h and 80-90 km/h in rural areas. Law requires seat belts and headlights must be on at all times. Each day check road and weather conditions before starting.

Licenses: A valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license can be used in Iceland. A CDL license from the U.S. or Canada is required for driving vehicles for 9 or more passengers.

Minimum age for renting cars:
20 years old (A, B, C, N, R, T)
23 years old (D, E, F, G, H, I, P, O)

Please note: Between June 10 and August 31, 2008, car types E, F, O, P and I are on a request basis only and cannot be booked online.
