This tour focuses on the fascinating diversity of Northern Iceland and is ideal for people who enjoy independent travel. After a flight to Akuryeri, board a bus for a guided tour to historic Godafoss waterfall and Myvatn National Park. View the unusual Skutustadir "craters" before switching to a bus (unguided) taking you to Krafla volcano and the Viti crater, passing multicolored mud pots en route. Afterwards head through surreal lava landscapes to Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful glacial waterfall. Again transfer buses here, taking one through Jokulsargljufur (Glacier Canyon River National Park) and its eerie, beautiful features. Visit Asbyrgi Canyon and the Echoing Rocks. Return to Akuryeri with a brief stop in the charming village of Husavik. Arrive in Akureyri in time for flight back to Reykjavik.
Note: Part of this tour is without a guide.
