Jules Verne's science fiction novel, "Journey to the Center of the Earth” helped draw attention to the exotic Snaefellsnes Peninsula. This part of West Iceland contains Snaefellsjokull volcano-glacier, which Verne speculated was the entrance to the trail leading into the Earth's center.

New Line Cinema is bringing this adventure to the big screen with 'Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D' -- In Theatres July 11.

Note: Some easy walking involved. Comfortable, waterproof hiking boots recommended.

Itinerary

Itinerary 1: (based on evening flights from North America) .

Day 1: Evening departure from North America

Day 2: Early morning arrival in Iceland. Fly Bus transfer to hotel in Reykjavik. Rest of day open for your own activities. A visit to one of the city's famous geothermal pools is always a great way to shake off the jetlag. Please note your may not be able to check in right away.

Day 3: Breakfast at your hotel. 9am departure on the Wonders of Snaefellsjokull tour (tour departs from hotels starting around 8:30am). Words cannot express the mystery and wonder of this peninsular national park! The glacier itself is known for its mystical powers. Visit the stone structure honoring Bardar Snaefellsas, the Viking shaman who sensed the energy and power said to radiate from the glacier. Take a guided walk in the vicinity of Snaefellsjokull to get a closer glimpse of the area's volanic geology and Viking history. The walk takes you along the coastline with its rugged terrain and the picturesque Arnarstapi harbor with its unique basalt columns. Before heading back to Reykjavik explore the beautiful black sand beach of Djupalonssandur and take a look at Gatklettur, an interesting cliff with a hole through it. Return Reykjavik around 7:00pm. Evening open for own activities. Tonight you should check with your hotel front desk regarding the best time to take the Fly Bus to the airport tomorrow.

Day 4: Breakfast at hotel. Fly Bus transfer to Keflavik airport for departure to North America.



Itinerary 2: (based on afternoon flights from North America) .

Day 1: Afternoon departure from North America. Dinner served on flight. Arrive in Reykjavik late in the evening. Fly Bus transfer to hotel in Reykjavik for check in and over night.
