Itinerary

Departure Day:
Depart from North America on evening flight (all gateways) or afternoon flight (Boston or New York).
Complimentary snacks, soft drinks and in-seat entertainment system during flight.  Meals, headsets and blankets available for purchase or provide your own.

Day 1: Arrival in Iceland
After clearing passport control, head downstairs for your luggage and customs. A representative from your tour will meet you at Keflavik Airport and drive you to a guesthouse in Reykjavik. Please check with your guesthouse regarding an information packet about the tour.

Note
- If you plan on arriving in Iceland before the actual tour start date, you must arrange your own airport/hotel transfers and hotel pre/post nights. Icelandair Holidays can assist with this. Passengers from Orlando flights will get Fly Bus transfers in their documents for transfers to cover travel days different from the actual travel dates.

Day 2: Reykjavik- Akureyri- Saltvik Farm- Hvammsheidi Plateau- Saltvik Farm (B, PL, D)
Flight to Akureyri and drive to Saltvík Farm. At the farm, meet the guides and horses. After the guides show you how to saddle and ride Icelandic horses, it’s time to head for the hills! Ride into the mountains along the river Laxa to the Hvammsheidi highland plateau. Tonight, stay overnight at Saltvík Farm where the outdoor hot tubs are waiting! (Riding Distance: About 12 miles)

Day 3: Laxárdalur – Lake Mývatn – Guesthouse Vogar (B, PL, D)
After a wholesome Icelandic breakfast, saddle up and continue the ride to Laxárdalur Valley, named for its famous salmon river. Follow the river all the way to Lake Mývatn where you will stay overnight at the Vogar guesthouse, situated in beautiful surroundings near the lake. Get to know the area on a guided bus tour around Lake Mývatn, famous for its geological wonders and rich bird life. Afterwards, enjoy a nice hot bath in Jardboð, a geothermal outdoor pool. (Riding Distance: About 25 miles)

Day 4: Vogar – Guesthouse Kiðagil (B, PL, D)
Continue riding towards Mt. Sandfell, winding through the valleys of Engidalur and Bárðardalur and enjoying excellent riding paths throughout most of the day. Today view parts of the mighty Odadahraun Lava field, the largest lava field in Iceland. Tonight’s overnight is at the cozy Kidagil Guesthouse on the banks of the glacial river Skjalfandafljot. (Riding Distance: About 22 miles)

Day 5: Kidagil – Godafoss – Torfunes – Saltvik Holiday Farm (B, PL, D)
Ride through scenic Bardardalur Valley (Iceland’s longest) towards the magnificent Godafoss waterfall. The trail follows partly along the river banks as you ride to Fellsskogur Forest. The horses rest at the farm, Torfunes, while you drive to Saltvik for the overnight stay. (Riding Distance: About 28 miles)

Day 6: Torfunes – Adaldalshraun – Saltvik Holiday Farm (B, PL, D)
Enjoy a last riding day through beautiful landscape characterized by the vast lava fields of Adaldalshraun and sweet-smelling birch forest. Cross over Hvammsheidi Heath before bringing the horses back home to Saltvík Farm where you will spend another night and enjoy the hot outdoor tubs! (Riding Distance: About 22 miles)

Optional (available at an extra charge): Whale Watching at Húsavík harbour a boat is waiting to go out on a whale watching cruise. This area is world-famous for its whale sightings. Though sightings are not guaranteed, there has been over a 90% success rate. (Price per person ISK 4.500, about USD68 though subject to fluctuation, booked and paid in Iceland)

Day 7: Return to Reykjavik (B)
Say farewell to your guides before being transferred back to Akureyri airport and your flight to Reykjavik. Arrive in Reykjavik around 1:30pm. Overnight in a hotel in Reykjavík.

Day 8: Departure to North America (B)
Transfer to Keflavík International Airport for your morning or afternoon departure to North AmericaComplimentary snacks, soft drinks and in-seat entertainment system during flight.  Meals, headsets and blankets available for purchase or provide your own.
