Itinerary
Itinerary for two night packages (based on evening flights from North America)
Day 1: Evening departure from North America
Day 2: Early morning arrival in Iceland. Fly Bus transfer to hotel in Reykjavik. Morning open for own activities. Head to Old Town Reykjavik which is the meeting point for the Elf and Hidden Folk walking tour. Tour departs at 3:00pm from outside Reykjavik Tourist Information Center (Adalstraeti Street #2). The guide will be wearing a black Icelandic sweater and carrying a walking stick. Please be there no later than 2:45pm The Reykjavik Old Town area has a large number of places where Hidden People are said to live. Folklore has it that clans of hidden folk alone reside in rocks around the Pond. Take an easy going stroll through the colorful, charming Old Town. Your guide will point out places where sightings of elves and hidden folk have occurred. In addition you will also learn about Icelandic folklore and the relationship between Iceland's environment and its folktales. Tour is about 90 minutes to 2 hours.
You may want to get something to eat in the Old Town or at your hotel. Tonight take the Icelandic Wonders: Elves, Ghosts and Trolls tour. Tour pick up starts from hotels at 6:30pm or you can also meet the tour departure point at the Icelandic Wonders Souvenir Shop in Old Town Reykjavik at 7:00pm. The tour takes you through areas of South Iceland just outside Reykjavik where historical accounts of Hidden Folk sightings have taken place. You might even try to see if you can spot any in the vicinity. The tour will eventually wind up in Stokkseyri, a charming seacoast village about 45 minutes from Reykjavik. The new Ghost Center and the Elf, Troll and Northern Lights Center are here. At the Ghost Center, take a self guided CD audio tour through rooms depicting areas in Iceland of famous ghost sightings. Tour takes about 45 minutes, but you can go at your own pace. Snacks and beverages are available at the Ghost Bar (not included). Afterwards, stroll through the nearby Elves and Trolls Center. This area depicts how Icelandic trolls and elves live, with reconstructions of their dwellings based on Icelandic folklore. A wintry Northern Lights room displays footage of spectacular Aurora displays in the past few years (bring something warm, as this room is coated with ice to simulate the temperature conditions ideal for Northern Lights). There is also a bar at the Ghost Center site where you can get light refreshments. Tour returns around 11:00pm, but the nightlife goes on in Reykjavik until the early hours. Many restaurants are also open late. Depending on the time of year, the sun may also still be bright in the sky. (no meals included)
Day 3: Breakfast at hotel. The day is open for you to enjoy more of Iceland. Perhaps you will want to visit the Blue Lagoon or a local geothermal pool. Maybe you will want take a day tour showing you a different part of this diverse country.
Day 4: Breakfast at hotel. Fly Bus transfer to Reykjavik Airport for flight to North America.
