Unique Iceland South

FROM THE FAMOUS GOLDEN CIRCLE TO THE ICEBERGS OF THE JÖKULSÁRLÓN GLACIAL LAGOON:

UNIQUE ICELAND: SOUTH
THE IDEAL BASE TO DISCOVER ICELAND’S NATURAL WONDERS

An entertaining and informative documentary about South Iceland, the
region that encompasses some of the country’s most well known natural highlights.

South Iceland has it all

All year round, everything that makes Iceland interesting to visit, its iconic natural wonders – volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, and beaches – can be found in South Iceland. History surrounds you everywhere, both ancient and recent. Other highlights are creative art, culture, flourishing trade and endless possibilities to enjoy outdoor life in all seasons. But above all there is the awesome and rugged nature stretching from the glaciers and mountains and down to the sea.

Unlimited travel options – in summer or winter

Discover the area around Vatnajökull, the world’s largest glacier outside the polar regions, which offers unique natural wonders and opportunities for outdoor activities. Explore the area around the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, including Þórsmörk nature reserve, the Dyrhólaey rock promontory, Skógarfoss waterfall, and endless black sand beaches.

Or drive straight from Keflavík Aiport east and south, along road 427, Suðurstrandarvegur (The South Coast Road), past the beautiful old wooden church at Selvogur Bay and to the fishing village Þórlákshöfn. Then visit the seaside communities of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri and drive from there to Selfoss, the largest town in South Iceland. And don’t forget the Golden Circle, the most popular tourist area in Iceland.

Be sure to enjoy the splendours of the winter: The pearly white snow reflects the yellowish rays of the sun. The northern lights dance around the starlit sky. The moon wanders solemnly through the clouds. At such times beauty, peace and quiet reign supreme, unforgettable to those who experi¬ence these magnificent moments. Trips across the highlands as well as the lowlands are an indescribable adventure during both summer and winter.

Spoiled for choice?

To make your decision easier, Icelandair has prepared a short documentary about South Iceland, in cooperation with a number of
travel service providers in the region.

Don’t you want to experience something unique?

You are always welcome to Iceland, and keep in mind that if you are travelling between North America and Europe with Icelandair, you can schedule a stopover in Iceland at no additional airfare. That is unique and you should jump at the opportunity.
