Flights to Akureyri

Connecting to Akureyri, Iceland's ‘Capital of the North,’ is easier than ever with a short and simple connection in Keflavík International Airport (KEF) when travelling from Icelandair's European gateways. These seasonal flights to Akureyri Airport (AEY) are operated by Icelandair's domestic sister airline, Air Iceland Connect, and can be booked exclusively via Icelandair in conjunction with international flights to and from Iceland.

From October 3rd to May 30th, flights from Keflavík to Akureyri are available four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and Sundays.

Flights from Akureyri to Keflavík are available Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Departures and arrivals are aligned with Icelandair’s European network; passengers travelling to Akureyri from the US and Canada will transit to Reykajvík Domestic Airport (RKV). Transport to Reykjavík Domestic Airport can be arranged in advance here.

Akureyri is Iceland’s second largest urban area after the capital area of Reykjavík, with a population of about 17,500. A naturally beautiful town, it is situated on one of the longest fjords in the country and features a mild climate with summer temperatures up to 25°C.

Akureyri makes the perfect base for exploring many of Iceland’s most famous natural wonders. The easily accessible Mývatn area is home to one of Iceland’s most beautiful lakes and geological wonders. Also nearby are the Jökulsárgljúfur area of Vatnajökull National Park, and the village of Húsavík, known for its whale-watching trips. From Akureyri you can also take a short flight or the ferry to the island of Grímsey and step across the Arctic Circle!
