You do not need to pick up your bags in Keflavik if you are flying with Icelandair from North America to Europe via Keflavik (or vice versa), your reservation is on one ticket, you have checked in your bags to your final destination, and the stop in Iceland is less than 12 hours.

Carry-on Baggage Allowance

Your carry-on bag must fit in the overhead bin.

Maximum dimensions: 21.6 x 15.7 x 7.8 inches (55 x 40 x 20cm), including handles and wheels. The maximum weight is 22lb (10kg).

In addition, passengers can bring on board 1 small item such as a handbag, backpack or laptop bag that must fit under the seat in front of you.

Maximum dimensions of the small item: 15.7 x 11.8 x 5.9 inches (40 x 30 x 15cm).

Please note: Departures from US locations: US (TSA) regulations stipulate that you may only carry 1 piece of carry-on baggage (with 1 accessory) through the security checkpoint when departing from US airports. Due to these TSA restrictions, Saga Premium Flex passengers are obligated to check in their second piece of carry-on baggage.

Useful Information

  • Golf, ski, angling, weapons, diving and hockey equipment may be taken in place of a normal checked bag.  Other types of sports equipment may not be substituted in place of a checked bag.
  • Skateboards are allowed as carry-on baggage with Icelandair, but some airports do not allow them through security check. Please contact the airport security at your departure airport to check the regulations. If skateboards are checked in, they will be charged as small sports equipment. Longboards need to be checked in and normal extra baggage fees apply to them.
  • Extra bags, golf and ski equipment may be purchased online if your ticket was purchased directly through Icelandair.  Bookings made through third-party websites and travel agencies should contact their point of purchase in order to pre-pay for baggage.
  • Animals in hold and weapons must be booked in advance and are only payable at airport check-in.  Heavy bags are also only payable at airport check-in. Only credit cards are accepted as payment at the airport.  Payments with cash, debit and credits cards are accepted at the ticketing office at Keflavík airport only.
  • Maximum baggage allowance per passenger is 10 pieces of checked baggage.  Passengers exceeding that allowance should contact Icelandair Cargo.

Travelling with bicycles

Bicycles cannot be checked in as part of the included baggage allowance. If you want to bring your bike with you, it can be checked in as sports equipment – as long as it meets the following criteria:

  • The bicycle is in a bag or a box
  • The handlebars have been turned parallel to the frame
  • The pedals have been removed
  • The tires have been deflated

The maximum dimensions of the bag or box containing the bicycle are 87 x 22 x 40 inches, and it must weigh less than 70 lbs.

For larger or heavier bicycles, please contact Icelandair Cargo.

Please note, a maximum of 25 bikes are accepted per flight.

Travelling with a drone

Drones can be taken on board as part of your carry-on baggage only, as long as the batteries are approved. The drone must fall under cabin baggage size restrictions.

All spare batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits. We recommend packing the batteries in their original retail packaging or by insulating the terminals, i.e. placing tape over exposed terminals, or placing each battery in a plastic bag or protective pouch.

Passengers travelling with a drone should contact Icelandair to supply the make, model and battery information for approval.

Travelling with multiple airlines

If your travel arrangements include more than one airline, other baggage allowances may apply. Extra bags must be purchased at the airport upon check-in (they cannot be purchased online). This may also affect fees applied, and any duty-free purchases that you make on your journey.

Please study the baggage allowances of our codeshare and interline partners carefully, as well as the information on your ticket.
