This Winter Special from Icelandair offers you the chance to see the Northern Lights on a guided boat trip from the city harbour as they light up the capital skyline!
The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, is the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the Arctic Circle. A more colourful and enticing description would be: the Northern Lights are a jaw-dropping display of pink, green, yellow, blue and purple dancing and rippling across the night sky - mother nature's way of redefining the Reykjavík nightlife! With this holiday package you can spend the weekend under this blanket of colours as they keep you well warm after a day at the Blue Lagoon, whale watching, or any of our other unforgettable day tours! Three nights in the land of fire & ice just may not be enough, but we have you covered! Book up to four additional nights at no additional airfare, dependent on availability, for plenty of opportunity to explore the best of Iceland. Until next time, of course!
If weather conditions aren't favourable for a boat tour, the tour operator will take you on alternative tour to the Whales of Iceland Exhibition, including a special northern lights video and a complimentary drink. Plus, you also receive complimentary tickets for the Northern Lights boat trip on the next available date, providing a second chance at seeing this beautiful natural phenomenon.

Welcome to Iceland! Check in to your Reykjavík hotel and get yourself acquainted with the Nordic vibe of the world’s northernmost capital. Go on a stroll to explore the Old Town and visit one of the city’s many lovely restaurants for a bite to eat.
Spend the day at your leisure before you sail away that evening from the coastline of Reykjavik on the Northern Lights by Boat tour. Searching for the Aurora Borealis out on the North-Atlantic ocean with beautiful mountains and the city lights in the background is something you won't forget. An expert guide will tell you all about the Northern Lights, the folklore and superstition, as well as explaining the underlying scientific facts that make this magical light show possible. Warm overalls are available, since it does get chilly in the winter and usually much of the time is spent outside gazing at the night sky. A warm and cosy seating area with cafe/snack bar inside the boat is also available. Departures range from 9 to 10pm, depending on the time of year, with hotel pick-ups beginning at 60 minutes prior. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomena and their appearance cannot be guaranteed.
Please Note: If weather conditions do not allow for the Northern Lights boat tour, the tour operator will take you on alternative tour to the Whales of Iceland Exhibition including a special northern lights video and a complimentary drink. You also receive a complimentary ticket for the Northern Lights by Boat trip on the next available date. Please note no refunds will be offered for this tour.
Today is yours free to check out one of the many day tours available for booking, including whale watching, horse riding, relaxing in the warm waters of the Blue lagoon or snowmobiling on the glaciers!
