Icelandair Launches Service from Portland to Iceland
Quincy, MA, May 20, 2015 – Today in Oregon, Icelandair launches their inaugural flight to Reykjavik, Iceland, FI664, from their 14th North American gateway, Portland International Airport (PDX). With this new service, Oregonians now have non-stop access to Iceland with connections to more than 20 destinations in Europe, including Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London and Paris.
“Portland, Oregon is a great launch pad for our continued expansion in the Pacific Northwest. Our new flights from PDX will give the business community and the adventurous travelers of Portland a refreshing alternative when traveling to Iceland and beyond. While our Portland service is currently seasonal we hope to see the demand facilitate further growth in the years ahead,” said Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair.
Since 1937, Icelandair has been considered a pioneer in aviation with its long, illustrious history of bridging North America and Europe through Iceland. Today, the airline continues to grow with new aircraft, modern amenities including Wi-Fi capabilities, and more destinations than ever before. Iceland has also seen a boom in tourism thanks to the Icelandair network helping make the island nation one of Europe’s hottest destinations. The Pacific Northwest has seen this growth and development first hand with the announcement of Seattle in 2009, Vancouver, British Columbia in 2014, and now, Portland.
“The spirit of adventure is alive and well in both Oregon and Iceland, and we anticipate that both communities will appreciate this new travel opportunity,” said Bill Wyatt, Port of Portland executive director. “We welcome Icelandair to Portland International Airport, and thank them for their service to our community.”
Icelandair offers service to Iceland from Boston, Chicago-ORD, Denver, Edmonton, New York-JFK, Newark, Seattle, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.; and seasonal service from Anchorage, Halifax, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Orlando, Portland, OR and Vancouver.
