Visit the charming town of Akureyri, located on a stunning fjord only a 45-minute flight from the capital. You can easily explore all the major spots in town on foot. Here you‘ll find a wide range of activities and interesting places e.g. notable museums, the world’s most northerly botanic garden, one of Iceland’s most popular swimming facilities and great hiking trails. Best of all, use of the city buses is completely free of charge. Akureyri also provides an excellent base for winter recreational activities such as downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, horse trekking, Super Jeep excursions and ice skating.

The Northern Lights tour starts at 21:30 with pick-up from your hotel starting 15 minutes prior. Based on the weather conditions, your tour guide will choose the area in the countryside where you’re most likely to see the Aurora Borealis with its spectacular displays of color, light and texture.

Day at your leisure in Akureyri, a town of charming buildings cradled within the magnificent Eyjafjörður fjord. Though small in size, Akureyri is vibrant and lively, offering gourmet dining, galleries, outdoor cafes and pubs. The year-round botanical gardens are an interesting feature, as well as the splendid spa-like geothermal swimming pool. If you are into skiing, you can hit the magnificent slopes at the Hlíðarfjall ski area in town. Self-transfer to the domestic airport in Akureyri for your early morning flight. We recommend to book a taxi transfer at the hotel reception on the night before.
