Requirements

The applicant must have a good command of the English language. A decent understanding of Icelandic is preferable. Secondary education (or comparable) is not necessary. Applicants must be 19 years old by the time they are employed in 2024 (born in 2005 or earlier).

Candidates must be in good mental and physical health and be able to cope with an irregular working schedule. The job can be physically demanding and is not suitable for people with Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSDs) or other physical ailments.

The hiring process

The hiring process can take from a few weeks to a few months. The aim is to interview people of all backgrounds and ages and hire from a varied group of applicants with different levels of education and experience. Unavoidably, because of the number of applications we receive, some candidates will not get a chance to introduce themselves.

Training

The Passenger Service recruitment training program lasts two weeks for 8 hours per day. The program is run by our training center in Keflavík, where professionalism and a disciplined work ethic are emphasized. The program is mainly based on teaching safety procedures and protocols as well as teaching trainees how to use systems and software.

Furthermore, employees will be trained in how to service customers and taught about our product supplies and service standards. Our goal is to provide top-quality service and prepare our employees for the many assignements of the job.

Training will partly be conducted online and thus requires basic computer skills. Applicants must have access to a computer or tablet during the program. Practical training is a big part of the program and is taught at Keflavík airport.

A 100% attendance is required and trainees must be well prepared. Being invited to attend the training program does not guarantee employment. Those who complete the program with good results will be offered a summer position.

Working hours

The Icelandair passenger service position is based on shifts that can be challenging in terms of working conditions and shift lengths. Each month, employees receive a shift plan. The number of work days depends on the employment contract for each employee.

We offer between 75% and 100% employment and summer employees commit to working for a minimum of 3 months during the summer season. In some instances, summer employees are offered additional months of work and even sometimes a permanent position.

Employees are not entitled to extra vacation days outside of their contractual rest days. We do not expect our employees to hold a second job while employed in this one.
