How far is Kulusuk Airport from the village?

Art and culture

East Greenland is proud of its ancient traditions. Local storytellers share tales and myths with visitors, artisans proudly demonstrate their crafts, and women in national costumes perform drum dances. Here you'll have an opportunity to experience firsthand the ancient Inuit culture, best reflected in the beautiful craftsmanship of the carvings done in tusk and bone. Stop by artisan workshops to see some of Greenland's best carvers at work.

In Tasiilaq, the Ammassalik Museum can be found in the town's first church, close to the harbour. It gives good context to cultural heritage of East Greenland.

Summer and winter activities

The best times to visit East Greenland are June to September for boat trips, hiking, kayaking, and whale watching, and from February to April for dog-sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, and catching the northern lights.

For a more relaxed holiday, boat tours run up the Ammassalik Fjord to several glaciers, the Sermilik Icefjord (one of the most active ice fjords in Greenland), traditional settlements, and an abandoned WWII airbase – all offering the potential for incredible iceberg viewing and whale watching.
