Important information

Keflavík International Airport (KEF) is the main airport for Iceland. Icelandair flights to Europe and North American destinations arrive and depart from KEF. For those connecting in Keflavik with Icelandair, the process is straightforward.

Icelandair domestic flights and some flights to Greenland* use Reykjavík Airport, a distance of 50km (31 miles) away. For passengers taking an onward domestic or Greenland flight, read more about transferring between the airports.

*NOTE: From June 1, 2022, the following applies for flights to Greenland:

  • Keflavík International Airport (KEF): to/from Nuuk, Ilulissat 
  • Reykjavík Airport (RKV): to/from Kulusuk, Narsarsuaq

Check-in and gate information

Recommended check-in time: 2.5 hours before departure. Please note that check-in closes 45 minutes before departure.

Gate closes 15 minutes before departure.

Lounge Information

Icelandair Saga Lounge is open before all departing Icelandair flights.

Other information

Self-service check-in kiosks are located at the departure hall at Keflavik airport. Passengers can check-in by themselves and if traveling with baggage there are special baggage drop-off desks in the Departure Hall.

Priority Check-in is located at Icelandair check-in counters 40-42.

The Leifur Eiríksson International Air Terminal is located at Keflavik Airport which is situated about 50 km (31 miles) from Reykjavik.

All retail sale and services operated in the departure hall are located within the duty-free zone and are, therefore, duty- and tax-free.

Baggage and transiting

  • Flying with Icelandair between North America and Europe via Keflavik: You do not need to pick up your bags in Keflavik. Your reservation is on one ticket, you have checked in your bags to your final destination, and the stop in Iceland is less than 12 hours.
  • Flying with Icelandair from an international destination to Keflavik with an onward flight to Greenland or a domestic Iceland airport: You need to pick up your bags in Keflavík and transfer to Reykjavík Airport, a distance of 50km (31 miles). Read more about the airports and transfer options.
