Travel restrictions are fast-changing. Travelers should look into the current rules that apply to them for the destination they wish to visit (for example, requirements for a COVID test or possible quarantine, what documentation is required), and also for rules that apply to their return trip (for example, the need to quarantine after returning home).
Negative COVID test results
To enter Norway as a foreign traveler, you must present documentation of a test for the coronavirus taken less than 72 hours prior to entry. If you do not present documentation of a negative test result, you may be refused entry.
Valid test methods are the standard PCR-based analysis or the rapid antigen-based test. The documentation must be issued in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, English, French or German.
There are some exceptions to the requirement, including:
- The requirement does not apply to Norwegian citizens, persons who are resident in Norway or persons in transit.
- Persons with a confirmed (laboratory tested) COVID-19 infection within the last six months are exempt.
- Children under 12.
Further details can be found on the official Norwegian website under the heading 'Rules upon entry into Norway'.
Flights to Norway via Copenhagen
The above rules apply to direct flights from Keflavík to Norway. If your flight is transiting in Copenhagen, you will need to follow the rules from the Danish authorities. Currently, all passengers arriving or transferring in Denmark must have tested negative for COVID-19 within 24 hours of boarding their flight. Read more on our Icelandair flights to Copenhagen page.
Registration form
Everyone entering Norway must complete a registration form. This also applies to Norwegian citizens. You can register digitally or by using a paper-based form.
Further details can be found on the official Norwegian website under the heading 'Rules upon entry into Norway'.
Quarantine
Anyone entering Norway from countries with a high level of infection (referred to as red countries) must enter a 10-day travel quarantine.
According to the new quarantine rules, quarantine can be shortened to seven days if you test negative for COVID-19 twice after arrival. Travelers must take the first test within three days and the second test no earlier than seven days after arrival.
