Members of Icelandair Saga Club earn both Saga Points and Tier Credits. The difference is simple:
Saga Points can be used
Members earn Saga Points for all scheduled Icelandair flights and when they shop with our partners around the world. Members can use their Saga Points for products and services, such as flights, hotels and car rentals. Saga Points are valid for up to four years, i.e. the calendar year when the earning is made and the three following years.
Tier Credits are for benefits
Members earn Tier Credits for scheduled Icelandair flights and with our partner airlines, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, as well for products and refreshments on board Icelandair. Tier Credits determine whether you are eligible for Saga Silver or Saga Gold membership. Members earn the same amount of Saga Points and Tier Credits for Icelandair flights and with our partner airlines.
When you have earned 40,000 Tier Credits within a 12 month period you are upgraded to Saga Silver, and when you have earned 80,000 Tier Credits within a 12 month period you are upgraded to Saga Gold.
Saga Silver members only have to earn 30,000 Tier Credits and Saga Gold members 70,000 Tier Credits within their card validity period, which is 12 months, to renew their status for another year. Additionally, Saga Silver members earn 10% more Tier Credits and Saga Gold members 20% more for Icelandair flights to help them keep their status. Please note that Tier Credits expires after 12 months.
