We want to remain flexible and understanding of all of our passengers’ needs in these difficult circumstances. Find out about the options we are offering to our customers, along with the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Safe travels - shared responsibility

We, together with Keflavik airport, are working hard to ensure your safety when traveling to and from Iceland.

You can contribute too. In short, this is what we ask of our passengers: wash your hands regularly, stay at home if you show any symptoms of illness, and use hand sanitizer dispensers where they are available. We may ask you routine health-related questions at any point during your travels to make sure you are fit to fly.

We all share the responsibility to make travel safe for everyone. Below you can see what we are doing during each stage of your journey and what you can do as a responsible traveler.

Check in

Safe travels
  • The airport is cleaned regularly.
  • Kiosks, check-in counters, doorknobs, handrails and other touch points are sanitized multiple times a day.
  • For your and our safety, hand sanitizers are available at the kiosks and check-in counters.
  • We ask you to regularly wash and/or sanitize your hands.
  • Your checked baggage will be handled following our strict safety protocols.
  • Use our Icelandair app to check in and get your boarding pass; it ensures a touchless journey through the terminal building and into the aircraft.
  • Limit contact with people not in your travel group.
  • Consider checking in all your luggage and skip taking carry-on with you to minimize contact with others on board.
  • We will try to keep middle seats empty for our flights. If passengers traveling together would like to sit next to one another, side-by-side seats may be requested at the check-in counter.

  • All Icelandair employees follow strict hygiene guidelines at all times.
  • Touchpoints such as trolleys, restaurants, waiting areas, and restrooms are sanitized multiple times a day.

  • You will be asked to observe the 2-meter / 6-foot rule during boarding. 
  • We ask you to allow plenty of time to board and to expect lines
  • All staff will wear personal protective gear like gloves and masks.
  • Once on board the plane, you are asked to take your seat immediately.

On board

Safe travels
  • The following surfaces are specifically disinfected before you board: screens, seat belts and buckles, tray tables, arm rests and window shades, light switches and air circulation controls, head rests, overhead lockers.
  • Consider not travelling with hand luggage to minimize contact and limit unnecessary movement around the cabin.
  • Restrooms are disinfected before you board.
  • Service on board is limited to minimize contact between passengers and crew members.
  • On long-haul flights, we serve food that we have packed under the strictest safety conditions
  • We do not refill your water during the flight, but we will give you a water bottle when boarding.
  • Do not travel if you feel ill or are showing any symptoms – even minor ones. 
  • Stay in your seat as much as possible during the flight. 
  • Maintain personal space as best you can and show kindness and understanding towards your fellow passengers. 
  • We will try to keep middle seats empty during our flights. If you have a middle seat, we will likely move you to a window or aisle seat instead.

Air on board

  • The HEPA – High Efficiency Particulate Air filters on board mean the air on board is of the same quality as in an office.
  • The air supply is fresh – we do not circulate the same air on board for longer than 20-30 minutes.
  • When we all observe hygiene guidelines and make sure to comply with personal safety recommendations, we all contribute to cleaner air on board.
  • According to WHO, the World Health Organization, infections and disease do not spread more easily on board a plane than they do on the ground. We make sure to monitor the quality of our air supply.
