Our unaccompanied minor service is available for children who are traveling alone.
Unaccompanied minor service on flights to and from Iceland: The service can be booked online. When booking, choose the unaccompanied minor option when selecting under 'Travelers’. In online bookings, the fee for the unaccompanied minor service is incorporated into the final ticket price.
Unaccompanied minor service on flights between Europe and North America (connecting via Iceland): Customers requiring the service must contact our service center. Our representative will explain the fee for the unaccompanied minor service, depending on your departure and destination airports.
On Icelandair international flights, an unaccompanied minor is a child between 5 and 15 years of age who is traveling not accompanied by a parent, guardian, or a responsible adult.
If your child is traveling alone with more than one airline, you need to book the service with the other airline(s) separately, and familiarize yourself with their rules regarding unaccompanied minor service. Note that the age requirements may also vary between airlines.
You should also check country regulations at the transfer airport(s), as rules for unaccompanied minor service may vary from country to country.

You must book the service at least 2 business days prior to departure, to ensure we have sufficient means on board to accommodate your child's needs. If you call to book, please have ready the information about the responsible adult or guardian who will be dropping off and picking up the child from the airport.
The unaccompanied minor form must be filled out and printed 4 times. These documents must then be presented during the check-in process at the airport.
Unaccompanied minors must be checked in by an adult guardian who must provide photo identification and contact information, as well as their relationship to the child.
The responsible guardian must remain at the airport until the aircraft is airborne.
Travel documents for the unaccompanied minor are placed in a special Icelandair wallet, which is worn by the child.
Four copies of our unaccompanied minor form should be filled out and presented at the airport during check-in.
During the transfer time in Keflavík airport the unaccompanied minor will be escorted by an Icelandair ground agent to a private waiting area. An Icelandair ground agent will also escort the unaccompanied minor to the aircraft before the boarding process has started.
There are two private waiting areas in Keflavik airport, one inside the Schengen area of the airport and another on the non-Schengen area of the airport.
The cabin crew will check in with your child throughout the flight.
As an additional safety precaution, your child will be seated at the back of the aircraft so that crew is always within easy reach.
Unaccompanied minors aged 5 to 11 years receive a children's meal and drinks during the flight, while children 12 years and older can select food items of preference from the Economy menu, free of charge.
The traveling child is also welcome to bring food on board.
On arrival at the destination, the Icelandair ground agent will meet the child at the aircraft, escort them through the airport, and help with collecting baggage. The agent will also check the photo identification and contact information before releasing the child to the guardian who has been specified in the child's booking.
