Our unaccompanied minor service is available for children who are traveling alone
On Icelandair international flights, an unaccompanied minor is a child between 5 and 11 years of age who is traveling not accompanied by a parent, guardian, or a responsible adult. Unaccompanied minor service can also be booked for passengers who are 12 - 15 years old. You can only book the Unaccompanied Minor service on International flights by contacting our Service Center.
You must request the service at least 2 business days prior to departure, to ensure we have sufficient means on board to accommodate your child's needs. When you call to book, please have ready the information about the responsible adult or guardian who will be dropping off and picking up the child from the airport.
An unaccompanied minor form must be filled out and printed four times. These documents must then be presented during the check-in process at the airport.
Unaccompanied Minors must be checked-in by an adult guardian who must provide photo identification and contact information, as well as their relationship to the child.
The responsible guardian must remain at the airport until the aircraft is airborne.
Travel documents for the Unaccompanied Minor are placed in a special Icelandair wallet, which is worn by the child.
Four copies of our Unaccompanied Minor form should be filled out and presented at the airport during check-in.
During the transfer time in Keflavík Airport the Unaccompanied Minor will be escorted by an Icelandair ground agent to a private waiting area. An Icelandair ground agent will also escort the Unaccompanied Minor to the aircraft before the boarding process has started.
There are two private waiting areas in Keflavik airport, one inside the Schengen area of the airport and another on the Non-Schengen area of the airport.
The cabin crew will check in with your child throughout the flight.
As an additional safety precaution, your child will be seated at the back of the aircraft so that crew is always within a easy reach.
Unaccompanied Minors aged 5-11 years receive a child meal and beverages during the flight, while children 12 years and older can select food items of preference from the Economy Class menu, free of charge.
The traveling child is also welcome to bring food on board.
On arrival at the destination, the Icelandair ground agent will meet the child at the aircraft, escort them through the airport and help with collecting baggage. The agent will also check the photo identification and contact information before releasing the child to the guardian, who has been specified in the child's booking.
