Book this tour to journey through the diversity and extreme contrasts of the Lake Mývatn area. One of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, this locale is considered by many to top the list of most beautiful places in Iceland.
Starting off you’ll cross the Eyjafjörður fjord, featuring a lovely view of Akureyri, the ocean and the mountains surrounding the fjord, before arriving at the gorgeous and picturesque Goðafoss waterfall.
Then, it’s off to Lake Mývatn – named for its abundant midge population in the summer - to explore the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar and enjoy the vast, panoramic view of the area. If it feels like you’ve been there before, you may have – at the cinemas! – as the area was a filming location for film and television productions including Game of Thrones and Star Wars. Other area highlights you’ll visit include Hverir Mud Pools, Mt. Námafjall, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and Grjótagjá cave.
You’ll cap off your adventure with a relaxing dip at the Mývatn Nature Baths during a minimum 1-hour visit. The baths are located in the middle of lava fields where you can soak in a geothermal lagoon. The entry fee is not included in the tour price but can be paid on site.
Be sure to bring good walking shoes, warm clothing in winter time, bathing suit, towel (can also be rented) and of course your camera!
