Icelandair Further Increases Service from Portland, Oregon
Quincy, MA, March 11, 2016 – Due to popular demand, Icelandair will be increasing its service from Portland International Airport (PDX) in 2016 with more flights and an extended season.
Icelandair launched seasonal flights from Oregon’s Rose City with twice-weekly departures in 2015. Now, with positive results and increased demand from the Pacific Northwest, Icelandair returns to Portland this year with a stronger network and more flights to Europe.
“Icelandair has been increasing service from the Pacific Northwest with our gateways in Seattle, Vancouver, and now, Portland. We look forward to better serving Oregonians with a longer season and additional flights, providing passengers even more options to Iceland and Europe.” says Birkir Holm Gudnason, Icelandair CEO.
Portland’s expanded schedule for 2016 will resume May 11 with two weekly flights, and will increase up to four weekly flights in late June with departures on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through mid-September. In addition, Icelandair is extending the season from Portland through January 2017, and will resume with an early start in March 2017.
“Oregon and Southwest Washington travelers responded positively to Icelandair’s inaugural season last summer,” said David Zielke, Director of Air Service Development for Portland International Airport. “It’s great that we’ll see more frequencies from PDX this summer and that the airline plans to extend their flights from PDX through January of 2017.”
Icelandair recently expanded their partnership with Alaska Airlines making connections through Portland and the ability to use and earn points when traveling even more rewarding.
“We’re delighted that Icelandair is expanding service from our Portland gateway, giving our members more options than ever to earn and redeem miles to Iceland and Europe,” said Andrew Harrison, Alaska Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer. “This new schedule will give our Portland-based members more convenient access to enjoy the benefits of our partnership, including access to Icelandair’s Saga Lounge for our MVP Gold and MVP Gold 75K members.”
