You can add optional cancellation protection, which covers the cost of your ticket in case you are unable to travel due to illness, injury, significant material loss, or a death in the family. The cancellation protection costs 35 CAD per person and can only be added when booking your flight or up to 36 hours after the purchase via a link from your e-ticket confirmation email. It cannot be added at a later point and is non-refundable.
If a passenger travels with an infant under the age of 2 (24 months) not occupying a seat and buys cancellation protection, the same protection is automatically added to the infant ticket free of charge.
The Cancellation Protection ensures the refund of that part of a travel fare which has been paid to Icelandair and cannot be refunded in any other way if a customer cannot make the intended journey. If the passenger does not manage to make the journey, Icelandair will refund the ticket. If the passenger needs to change his travel plans after the start of his journey, Icelandair will refund the relevant flight ticket (the unused part of the ticket) or change fees (but not the fare difference), in accordance with the following terms and conditions.
Documentation in the form of a medical certificate signed by a doctor is required. A medical certificate does not entitle for a refund if the Cancellation Protection has not been purchased.
The Cancellation Protection can only be purchased:
