Icelandair relocated to Heathrow Terminal 2
The carrier, that celebrates 70 years of flying to the UK this year, honoured the occasion by using its specially designed Aurora Borealis themed Boeing aircraft the Hekla Aurora to transport the first T2 passengers. Guests were also treated to live music from the Northern Lights Symphony Orchestra quartet who played music in the T2 departures lounge.
Icelandair operates twice daily services to Reykjavik, Iceland and then onwards to 14 gateways in North America and Canada. The geographic position of Iceland on the shortest flight path between Europe and North America means Icelandair offers many of the quickest transatlantic flight times from the UK to its Canadian and American gateways. Icelandair is also the only airline offering passengers the chance to stopover for up to 7 days in Iceland for no additional airfare.
Andrés Jónsson, General Manager of Icelandair in UK said
“This move to Terminal 2 is great news for our passengers as they will get an even higher quality of service in a brand new state of the art terminal. We are investing in our on-board experience too with wifi being installed across our fleet to enhance the passenger journey.
”Icelandair continues growing it´s route network in 2015, with more frequencies to several destinations such as Vancouver, New York and Washington DC. The airline is also adding gateways with Portland, Oregon starting in May. “We are very pleased to be able to increase transatlantic possibilities from the UK and offer people in the UK faster travel times to many of our destinations and a greater opportunity to fly Icelandair.”
Andy Garner, Airline Business Development Director at Heathrow Airport said
“We are delighted to welcome Icelandair and its passengers to Terminal 2 less than a year after it opened. Last year was an important and successful one for us which saw the culmination of an £11bn investment programme in the smooth opening of Terminal 2 – a terminal of world firsts – and it was exciting to see the phased approach of airlines joining the terminal work well. Icelandair is the latest to join the family and we hope they like their new home. We’re certainly pleased to have them here.”
The first Icelandair flight into Terminal 2, the Hekla Aurora, arrived at 11:30 today and departed at 13:00. Icelandair passengers checked-in at Terminal 2 in Zone C. Check-in opened 3.5 hours before and closed 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
