Traveling with a service animal

We welcome your service dog to accompany you free of charge on board when you fly with us. If you need to transport a non-service animal in the cargo hold, please visit our animal transportation page.

Trained and certified service animal on board

Service animals are dogs, regardless of breed or type, that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual. On our flights, we accept service animals that accompany travelers with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Such animals include but are not limited to:

  • Guide dogs
  • Hearing dogs
  • Diabetic alert dogs
  • Mobility assistance dogs
  • Autism service dogs

Animal species other than dogs, emotional support animals intended to mitigate a passenger’s disability by their presence, comfort animals, companionship animals, therapy animals and service animals in training are not service animals for the purposes of this part and are not accepted in the cabin on Icelandair flights. For more information about transporting animals in the cargo hold, please see our animal transportation page.
