Whale Watching in Reykjavik

From the city center to "sea" a whale in no time!

Iceland is one of the best places in the world for whale watching. On this whale watching cruise at sea you will get a chance to encounter magnificent whales and a variety of marine life. Conveniently located in Reykjavík’s old harbour, a three hour journey with Elding will bring you close to the whales in their natural habitat.

The whale watching tours are focused mainly on the southern part of Faxafloi bay, just off Reykjavik. During the summer season the wildlife in the bay is at its highest. The most typical creatures sighted include Minke whales, White-beaked Dolphins, Harbour porpoises and Humpback whales, giving us the chance to enjoy and understand them in their natural environment. Occasionally we see other species including Killer whales/Orcas and even Fin whales.

Winter whale watching gives you a whole new experience and adventure with low lying sun casting a warm glow over the white-capped mountains. Breathing in the fresh crisp winters air is just incredible. The weather and sea conditions can be very challenging during the winter season and when necessary, the local tour company adapts by moving the vessels to harbors of more sheltered areas around the Reykjanes peninsula, allowing for more comfortable and reliable whale watching adventure.
