Icelandair and Southwest announce frequent flyer partnership

At Icelandair, we’re always looking for new ways to deliver more and better travel opportunities to you and are delighted to announce that Icelandair and Southwest Airlines are extending their strategic partnership to their frequent flyer programs.

What does this mean for passengers?

From spring 2027, Icelandair Saga Club members can earn Icelandair Saga Points and Tier Credits when flying with Southwest. Members can also pay for their whole booking with Saga Points, including the Southwest flight leg, or combine points with other payment methods when booking through Icelandair's channels.

Southwest Rapid Rewards members will be able to earn and redeem points for travel with Icelandair.

Thanks to the partnership, passengers can book a single ticket for their entire journey, connecting between Icelandair and Southwest flights.

Strategic partnership

The partnership began in 2025, when Icelandair became Southwest's first airline partner. Since then, customers can connect between our two networks on one ticket via six US gateways: Baltimore (BWI), Nashville (BNA), Denver (DEN), Orlando (MCO), Pittsburgh (PIT), and Raleigh-Durham (RDU).

Next summer, St. Louis becomes a seventh gateway, as Icelandair begins seasonal flights between Keflavík and St. Louis on May 14, 2027. Southwest is the largest airline in St. Louis, making the city a new connection point between North America, Iceland, and Europe.

From these gateways, Southwest flies to more than 100 destinations, including Austin, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dallas, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City. In the other direction, Southwest customers can connect to our network of destinations in Iceland, Greenland, and Europe.

Tómas Ingason, Icelandair's Chief Commercial Officer:

"Southwest is an excellent partner, and as our partnership develops, more and more travel options are becoming available to customers of both airlines. This latest addition is a welcome one, as customers can now both earn and redeem their loyalty points for the entire journey across the two airlines' route networks."

Southwest customers can benefit from connections to Icelandair’s extensive network, which covers five airports in Iceland, four in Greenland, and over 30 destinations in Europe.

Our European network reaches superstar capitals like Paris, London, and Amsterdam; Nordic hotspots such as Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo; and year-round favorites including Rome, Lisbon, Barcelona, and Prague.

We look forward to welcoming Southwest passengers on board our flights and bringing the spirit of Iceland to their journeys!
