Icelandair Welcomes Denver Aboard
Quincy, MA, May 11, 2012 - Today, Icelandair will launch service from their newest North American gateway with non-stop flights to Iceland from Denver International Airport. Flight #670 will depart at 5:15 pm and operate four flights per week from the Mile High City. Once in Iceland, Icelandair offers non-stop connections to more than 20 destinations in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe.
Icelandair will be the first international carrier to initiate service from Denver International in nearly 10 years and is expected to generate more than $28 million in annual economic impact to the state of Colorado.
To celebrate, there will be a launch ceremony at gate A37 along with a water salute, ribbon cutting and dignitaries from both Iceland and Colorado to help inaugurate Denver’s first flight to Iceland.
“We look forward to launching service from our newest gateway, Denver, and offering the savvy travelers of Denver a fresh alternative when traveling to Europe.” Said Thorsteinn Egilsson, General Manager, The Americas.
A delegation arriving on the first inbound flight from Iceland last night included Mayor Michael Hancock and Icelandair’s CEO, Birkir Holm Gudnason. There was water salute and a welcome reception at the airport including the Denver welcome committee in full cowboy regalia.
“Thank you for the Mile High City warm welcome,” said Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair. “We are looking forward to meeting more Coloradoans and sharing the nature, lifestyle and culture of Iceland.”
This year, Icelandair celebrates 75 years of aviation with the largest network in its history, including additional flights to recently added London Gatwick and daily service to London Heathrow.
Icelandair offers service to Iceland from Boston, New York-JFK, Seattle, and Denver with seasonal service from Washington, D.C., Minneapolis-St. Paul, Orlando Sanford, Halifax and Toronto.
Connections through Icelandair’s hub at Keflavik International Airport are available to over 20 destinations in Scandinavia, the U.K. and Continental Europe. Only Icelandair allows passengers to stopover in Iceland at no additional airfare.
