Icelandair Goes Year-Round from Vancouver
Quincy, MA, May 9, 2017 – Due to the increasing demand from Vancouver International Airport, Icelandair will increase their current seasonal service to a full year-round schedule starting this winter.
“Icelandair began seasonal service from Vancouver on May 14, 2014 and has continued to see increased demand to Iceland and beyond. Our new year-round schedule will offer Vancouverites a refreshing alternative to more than 25 destinations in Europe and we look forward to welcoming you aboard,” said Birkir Holm Gudnasson, Icelandair’s CEO.
Icelandair offers three cabins of service with one checked bag, personal in-flight entertainment systems and gate-to-gate Wi-Fi available for all passengers.
“I would like to thank Icelandair and our tourism partners for their continued support,” said Craig Richmond, YVR’s President & CEO. “Together, we have laid the foundation for this increased service, which will further develop YVR as a world-class connecting hub by linking our passengers and businesses with an incredible destination—and key connecting hubs in Europe. This means more opportunities for travel, education and business.”
The expanded Icelandair service will further strengthen YVR and Icelandair’s successful partnership, which started with the launch of its YVR – KEF service in 2014. The flight will continue to use the Boeing 757 aircraft and will depart YVR two days a week on Fridays and Sundays at 15:45 and arrive at KEF at 06:00; it will depart KEF on Thursdays and Saturdays at 17:10 and arrive in YVR at 17:50. Service will ramp up to three days a week in 2018. In addition to offering passengers more connections, Icelandair’s service will create 61 jobs and will contribute $3.4 million in Gross Domestic Product to the B.C. economy, as cited by Vancouver Airport Authority.
