From October 15 to November 30 we offer 3 departures in each direction per week. These departures are designed to work well with flights connecting Keflavík with Europe.  

Please note that on days where there is no Akureyri-Keflavík flight, connections are possible via Reykjavík domestic airport, but you need to travel between airports.

No, flights between Akureyri and Keflavík are only sold as part of an international flight to ease the connection when flying between Akureyri and Europe or North America. 

Domestic flights to Akureyri are operated from Reykjavík (RKV) airport. For more information about flying domestically, please see Domestic flights in Iceland.

No, all checked baggage will be checked in at your departure airport and transferred onward to the next Icelandair flight in Keflavík. Passengers do not have to pick up their baggage at Keflavík airport, as it will be transferred for them. 

For example, if you fly from Copenhagen to Akureyri, you can check in your baggage in Copenhagen and pick it up at the baggage claim belt in Akureyri.

Only once. Passengers connecting via Keflavík go through the security screening only at their departure airport. 

For example, if you're departing from Copenhagen, you'll go through security screening at the airport in Copenhagen and won't need to be screened again at Keflavík airport.

You can book Saga Premium all the way and enjoy the same baggage allowance and all other benefits included the Saga Premium fare. However, please note that Saga Premium seats and service on board flights between Akureyri and Keflavík are not the same as on international flights, as the aircraft used for domestic flights are smaller.

We will provide a rerouting option on a first available flight. 

Passengers are entitled to care provided by Icelandair and may be eligible for compensation if the case is not considered extra-ordinary circumstances or seen as force majeure. Please find more information on our Customer Care page.

Our disruption procedures for connecting flights between Akureyri and Europe or North America are the same as for all other international flights. 

For example, if we see a weather forecast that will impact flights, we may offer you the chance to voluntarily change your flight free of charge. Hotels and other arrangements are taken care of by the passengers themselves.
