Ski resorts around Verona

Although there's plenty to see and do in Verona itself, you might like to explore the surrounding areas. If you're looking for skiing, you'll appreciate the region's easy access to the Italian Alps. Many of the country's most popular skiing areas are in the vicinity, including Madonna di Campiglio / Val Rendena north of Verona airport, and Val Gardena / Alpe di Siusi in the Dolomites to the airport's northeast.

The Val Gardena resort is one of the largest in Europe, due to ski lifts linking together a number of large skiing areas. Selva, Ortisei and Santa Cristina are among the best-known skiing villages of Val Gardena, home to a number of bars where aprés-ski vibes reign supreme. There are top-class restaurants and excellent accommodation available throughout the villages of the area.

Explore Verona and learn about Veronese history

Verona is the perfect place for a walking or biking tour, where you can thread your way through gorgeous piazzas and across ancient bridges, exploring via the city's long and narrow streets.

Don't forget to take a stroll around the delightful botanical gardens of Giardiano Giusti, which beautifully preserve the elegant garden style of the 16th century. You also shouldn't miss the 2000-year-old Roman Colosseum, where you might even catch a summer opera performance in the open-air setting.

If you're interested in art history, head to the Castelvecchio museum, which houses a vast collection of paintings, antiques and statues in a stately castle from the Middle Ages. Modern meets medieval in the museum's architecture, with parts of it having been reconstructed after WWII – retaining the medieval look on the outside, but adding a modern twist inside.

Food and wine in Verona

In addition to its illustrious cultural history, Verona has a reputation for top-class dining. On a traditional menu, travelers can usually find pork risotto, potato gnocchi, and the Verona specialty: pastissada de caval, a horse-meat stew served with carrots and onions, peppered with a variety of local spices.

The city of Verona is surrounded by vineyards and wineries, many of which offer the opportunity to take a tour of the premises and, of course, taste the product.

You're also in for a treat when it comes to the dessert menu. Try the enticing fritole (fried raisin buns with powdered sugar), the traditional star-shaped Christmas cake pandoro and of course the classic Italian delicacy: gelato.
